DESCRIPTION
A Journey Through Ocean Lines
Inspired by the dynamic and fluid nature of the sea, the design of the aquarium draws from the Lines of the Oceans—the invisible threads that define currents, depth, and topography. These lines guide our understanding of the underwater world, shaping how we experience and interpret nature’s hidden landscapes.
“A Journey Through Ocean Lines” is an immersive exploration into the rhythms and flows of the ocean. It honors the pioneering spirit of explorers like Alexander von Humboldt, whose legacy of discovery and scientific curiosity continues to inspire deeper connections between land and sea, science and story.
Methodology
We believe a modern cultural aquarium should transcend the traditional experience of simply moving from tank to tank. It should be more than just a path that ends in a gift shop or café.
Our vision is a contemporary, multifaceted destination—at once educational, visual, commercial, and entertaining. Designed as a landmark for Berlin, this aquarium is conceived not just as a building, but as a cultural icon and vibrant meeting point.
Strategically located in the sub-centre of Berlin, directly across from the bustling Ostkreuz Train Station, the aquarium is positioned at the crossroads of movement—just like the gulf streams of the ocean. The main exhibition pathway flows like a current, guiding visitors through awe-inspiring large-scale displays, while smaller eddy-like exhibition zones offer intimate, thematic experiences unique to each aquatic biome.
